Genoa Sack Patrick Vieira After Winless Serie A Run

Genoa have parted ways with head coach Patrick Vieira after failing to win any of their opening nine Serie A matches this season.

The club announced the decision on Saturday, releasing a short statement thanking the Frenchman and his staff for their professionalism. Sources close to Vieira confirmed to BBC Sport that the departure was mutual following discussions on Friday night.

Vieira’s side sit bottom of the table with six losses and three draws, despite securing two victories in the Coppa Italia. Assistant Roberto Murgita has been placed in temporary charge, supported by club legend Domenico Criscito, as Genoa begin their search for a permanent successor.

Appointed in November 2024, the former Arsenal captain initially steadied the club, guiding them from 17th to 13th in his first season. However, that progress faded with a poor start to the current campaign.

Vieira, 49, enjoyed a glittering playing career with Arsenal, Inter Milan, and Manchester City before moving into management, previously leading New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, and RC Strasbourg.
