Heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Kano State took centre stage on Wednesday as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Gossip News Now reports that the high-level discussion came against the backdrop of rising public anxiety following the recent killing of a housewife and her children, an incident that has deeply unsettled communities across the state.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the meeting focused on security challenges, key infrastructure projects, and efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Kano State Government and the Federal Government.

During the engagement, Governor Yusuf reportedly briefed President Tinubu on the deteriorating security situation in some local government areas, emphasizing the urgent need for federal intervention.

He highlighted the devastating impact of insecurity on residents, particularly vulnerable groups, and called for enhanced support to reinforce security operations and prevent further loss of innocent lives.

The governor also outlined the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security agencies and advocated for stronger cooperation with federal security institutions to improve intelligence gathering and rapid response.

Beyond security matters, Yusuf used the opportunity to present his administration’s development priorities, with a strong focus on large-scale infrastructure projects designed to stimulate economic growth.

“Governor Yusuf also discussed Kano’s development agenda, placing emphasis on mega infrastructure projects. He expressed appreciation to the President for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing it as a crucial step toward unlocking economic growth and job creation,” the statement noted.

The governor further appealed for the President’s backing in expediting ongoing federal projects in Kano, stressing that their timely completion would boost investment prospects and generate employment opportunities.

He also urged the Federal Government to ensure Kano fully benefits from national programmes and investments, noting that closer cooperation would help bridge longstanding development gaps within the state.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that coordinated action between the state and federal governments is essential to addressing security challenges while delivering sustainable development for residents.

In response, President Tinubu assured the governor of the Federal Government’s readiness to work closely with Kano State, pledging continued support to tackle insecurity and advance development initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and long-term stability of the state.
