Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has debunked reports suggesting that he plans to defect from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gossip News Now reports that speculation about Otti’s alleged defection surfaced after photos of his recent visit to Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, went viral. Some individuals claimed the meeting was part of discussions to facilitate his move to the ruling party.
However, in a statement released on Monday by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, Governor Otti dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
Kanu described the rumour as a “fabrication by political propagandists,” stressing that Governor Otti remains fully committed to the Labour Party, under which he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Abia State.
“The Governor remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” the statement read.
Otti reiterated that his primary focus is on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability in governance, and delivering tangible results to the citizens.
He urged the public to disregard the false reports, describing them as cheap political propaganda aimed at distracting his administration.
“His focus remains unshaken — to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the state,” the statement added.
