Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the Board and Management of Lobi Stars Football Club following the team’s shock relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after 27 consecutive seasons in the top flight.
The announcement was made on Thursday through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi.
According to the statement, the decision forms part of Governor Alia’s ongoing efforts to restructure and revitalize the state-owned club for “greater efficiency, accountability, and improved performance” in future competitions.
“The decision is aimed at repositioning the club for greater efficiency, accountability, and better performance in both the Nigeria Premier Football League and other competitions,” the statement read.
Governor Alia directed all members of the dissolved management team to immediately hand over official documents, assets, and responsibilities to the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity.
While commending the outgoing officials for their past contributions, the governor emphasized the need for a fresh vision and professional approach to restore the club’s lost glory.
“The government appreciates those who have served the club over the years. However, the time has come for a new direction that reflects our commitment to professionalism and transparency in sports administration,” Alia said.
He added that a new management structure would soon be unveiled to lead the next phase of Lobi Stars’ transformation, stressing that competence and accountability would be top priorities.
“The next leadership of Lobi Stars must demonstrate competence, passion, and accountability. Our focus is on building a club that makes Benue people proud and contributes meaningfully to our sports development agenda,” the governor stated.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring Lobi Stars’ status as one of Nigeria’s most competitive and respected football clubs, vowing to make the team a model of sports excellence in the country.
