Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Friday, the Governor’s Senior Special Adviser on Media, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, described the reports as false and malicious, insisting that Governor Lawal remains committed to the PDP. The clarification was shared via the official Facebook page of the Governor’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Mugira Yusuf.
Kaura accused political detractors of fabricating the story to create confusion and disunity within the state’s political landscape.
“The rumour was concocted by mischief makers, and this is not the first time such an insinuation has been made. But outrightly, it’s not true,” Kaura stated.
The statement comes amid growing speculation following the recent wave of high-profile defections from the PDP. Notably, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State recently left the opposition party. While Mbah officially joined the APC along with his cabinet, Diri’s new political alignment remains unclear, as his deputy reportedly declined to leave the PDP.
In addition, unconfirmed reports have suggested that Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State may also be considering switching allegiance to the ruling APC—a claim yet to be verified.
Governor Lawal, however, maintains that he is focused on delivering good governance to the people of Zamfara State and will not be distracted by political speculation or misinformation.
