Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on Monday, expressed profound grief over the death of former Senator John Kojo-Brambaifa, describing him as a prominent son of the state and a towering figure in Nigeria’s political history.
Gossip News Now reports that Brambaifa, who represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the 5th National Assembly, passed away on Saturday at an Abuja hospital at the age of 81.
In a condolence statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri paid glowing tribute to the late lawmaker, commending his enduring contributions to public service and governance.
“Bayelsa State and Nigeria have lost a respected elder statesman, a gentleman of rare grace, a seasoned politician, and a dedicated community leader,” the governor said.
He noted that Brambaifa’s career was marked by integrity, dedication, and selfless service, adding that his impact spanned the old Rivers State, Bayelsa State, and his local community.
“Senator Brambaifa bequeathed a legacy of principled and committed service. On behalf of the Government and people of Bayelsa State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Brambaifa family and the Agbere community in Sagbama Local Government Area, his ancestral home,” Diri stated.
The governor encouraged the family and community to draw strength from the late senator’s exemplary life, noting that his public service record reflected discipline, honour, and unwavering commitment to the common good.
Until his death, Senator Brambaifa served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, in Nembe Local Government Area.
He previously served as Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Council during the era of the old Rivers State and later headed the Bayelsa State Board of Internal Revenue, further underscoring his extensive contributions to governance and administration.
Governor Diri described Brambaifa as a political leader who consistently distinguished himself in office and community service, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
“His outstanding political and public service career reflects his deep love for his people. Bayelsans should honour his memory by upholding the values he stood for,” the governor added.
