The government and people of Bayelsa State have been thrown into mourning following the death of respected political figure John Kojo-Brambaifa. His passing, which occurred in Abuja at the age of 81, marked the end of a lifetime dedicated to leadership, public administration, and community development. His contributions spanned decades and left an imprint on both state and national political structures.

Governor Douye Diri paid tribute to the late elder statesman, noting that his influence went far beyond his official positions. He described Brambaifa as someone whose values, discipline, and loyalty to public service made him an example for others to follow. According to the governor, Bayelsa and Nigeria have lost “a refined leader, a respected political voice, and a committed servant of the people whose presence commanded honour.”

Brambaifa’s political journey included representing the Bayelsa West Senatorial District during the 5th session of the National Assembly. Beyond legislative duties, his career reflected steady dedication to governance at multiple levels. He also served in key administrative roles that demonstrated his leadership abilities and commitment to strengthening public institutions.

His service record extended into academia, where he held the position of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri. This role reflected his continued relevance in shaping the future through education and institutional guidance. Even in later years, he remained actively involved in national development through advisory and leadership responsibilities.

Governor Diri, in a message conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary Daniel Alabrah, emphasized that the late senator’s life symbolized honour and unwavering dedication. He expressed sympathy particularly to the people of Agbere in Sagbama Local Government Area, where Brambaifa hailed from. The governor urged them to remain proud of the example he set, noting that his achievements should serve as a reminder of what purposeful leadership looks like.

Before Bayelsa became a separate state, Brambaifa also contributed significantly to governance in the old Rivers State structure, including leadership at the local government level and in revenue administration. His career reflected a consistent pattern of service driven by integrity and responsibility. Governor Diri encouraged citizens to preserve his memory by embracing the ideals he stood for, stressing that his remarkable journey remains a lasting source of inspiration for generations to come.
