Following Governor Abba Yusuf’s departure from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), several political appointees in Kano State, loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have begun resigning in protest, calling the governor’s move a betrayal of the political movement.
In a video circulating on social media, Sunusi Sirajo, a former Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, announced his resignation, citing Gov. Yusuf’s exit from the NNPP as the reason.
“After learning that the governor has left the NNPP and is expected to join the APC, I submitted my resignation letter, but it was not accepted,” Sirajo explained.
He added that his resignation was rejected by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, which led him to make a public declaration.
“I am making this video to inform everyone that I have resigned from my position. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the work we accomplished over the past two years. However, I cannot be part of betrayal. I remain loyal to our leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he said.
In response, Governor Yusuf’s media aide, Sanusi Bature, confirmed the appointment of Mustapha Hamza Buhari as the new Special Adviser on Political Matters, replacing Sirajo.
Other notable appointees who have resigned include:
- Sumaila Abdullahi, Esq., Provost, Anti-Corruption Institute
- Sadiq Kura Mohammad, Managing Director, Kano Zoo
- Abdullahi Ahmad Namama, Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental and Foreign Affairs
Reports indicate that more resignations may follow as divisions within the administration deepen.
NNPP Flags Removed from Kano Government House
Amid the political tension, NNPP flags have been taken down from the Kano State Government House.
In a video that went viral, Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, was seen personally removing the party flags from the premises.
A visit by Vanguard confirmed that the NNPP banners had been taken down from the main entrance and other key buildings within the government complex.
