‘Governors Will Bury This Party’ – Wike Warns PDP Leadership

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) risks total collapse if its current governors continue to sideline key stakeholders within the party.

Gossip News Now reports that Wike issued the caution on Friday during his monthly media parley with journalists in Abuja.

According to the former Rivers State Governor, the PDP’s internal crisis is being fuelled by arrogance and exclusion, particularly from some governors who, he claims, have sidelined other party stalwarts in key decision-making processes.

“Have I not said it before now that the way these present governors are doing, they will bury this party?” Wike stated.

He criticised the party’s leadership style, arguing that excluding experienced members like himself from strategic discussions is a major mistake that threatens the PDP’s unity and survival.

“Before now, as an opposition, we shouldn’t act with impunity. Look, I’m an FCT Minister, for Christ’s sake — forget about whatever you think. Are you telling me that because I’m not a governor, you can hold PDP meetings, call them stakeholders, and exclude me — and then you think the party will survive?”

Wike insisted that his long-standing contributions to the PDP should not be dismissed simply because he no longer holds a governorship position.

“Even if I’m not an FCT Minister, the role I’ve played in this party till now should count. Simply because I’m not a governor, I can’t be consulted on decisions? Certainly not.”

He further dismissed suggestions that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the PDP’s internal problems, blaming poor leadership decisions instead.

“All this talk about APC this, APC that — rubbish. Is it the APC that’s making you take the wrong decisions? When we were governors, why didn’t anyone leave the party? We had our challenges, went to the Supreme Court, and still held the party together. What’s different now?”

Wike’s comments come amid renewed tensions within the PDP, as several high-profile defections and leadership disputes continue to shake the opposition party.
