Residents of Ashige, a Migili-speaking community in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, were thrown into shock on Tuesday night after gunmen stormed a traditional wedding ceremony in the Akunza community.

The attack reportedly occurred while wedding celebrations were in progress, triggering panic as guests and residents scrambled for safety.

A youth leader from the area, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that at least three people were killed during the assault, while several others sustained injuries.

According to him, women and children were among those wounded in the attack and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby health facility.

As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the violent invasion remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, fresh security concerns have also been raised in Kogi State, where several individuals were reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen along the Omi-Odo Ara Road in Yagba West Local Government Area.

Sources disclosed that the abduction occurred on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, although the exact number and identities of the victims had yet to be officially confirmed.

Residents said security agencies have been alerted, while people in neighbouring communities have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.

The latest incident comes barely a day after tension gripped the Odo-Ere community in the same local government area following a coordinated attack by suspected terrorists on Sunday night.

During that attack, at least four residents were reportedly abducted. The victims were identified as Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman popularly known in the community as Iya Lara.

The repeated incidents have heightened fears among residents over the worsening security situation across parts of Nasarawa and Kogi states.
