Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, has dismissed widespread social media reports claiming he has joined the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In an interview with New Telegraph on Thursday, Adamu described the online claims as baseless, stressing that they were fabricated to stir unnecessary attention on social media.
The former chairman made it clear that he remains loyal to his political path, saying, “I am not an ungrateful politician.”
Adamu, who previously served two terms as governor of Nasarawa State and later as a Senator under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has had an extensive political career. He once held the position of Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was also instrumental in the creation and rise of the APC, contributing significantly to its consolidation before taking on the role of National Chairman in 2022.
The viral report alleging his defection to ADC claimed that the move resulted from internal cracks within the APC. It suggested that Adamu had been quietly consulting for months due to frustration with the party’s direction and that his departure would deal a major blow to the APC, considering his influence since the party’s inception in 2015.
However, Adamu firmly rejected the story, stating:
“Don’t mind the social media reporter. They want to drag me out, but I have nothing to say to anyone. I am not an ungrateful politician. I served my party at the highest level, and I stand where I am today.”
Adamu remained APC National Chairman until 2023, when he was removed after the general elections that ushered in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During his leadership, he was a vocal supporter of Senate President Ahmed Lawan’s presidential ambition under the APC banner.
