Nollywood star, Bimbo Thomas, has opened up about her long-standing battle with excessive menstrual bleeding, which eventually led to the discovery of fibroids.
In a conversation with media host Chude, the actress disclosed that she had been dealing with unusually heavy periods since her teenage years.
She revealed that her monthly cycle often lasted far beyond the normal duration—sometimes stretching from nine to fourteen days—leaving her drained, fatigued, and unable to function properly.
According to her, things took a more severe turn after she gave birth, as her menstrual flow resurfaced just three months postpartum and became significantly heavier than before.
Gossip News Now reports that the actress recounted how the intense bleeding frequently caused her to faint, turning it into a troubling routine for both herself and those around her.
Thomas stated that her loved ones gradually became accustomed to the situation because she would often pass out or lose awareness during her period due to extreme blood loss and crippling pain.
In early 2021, she finally sought formal medical intervention and was directed to a specialist known as Dr. Ahmed.
After undergoing multiple medical examinations, she was informed that although her general health appeared stable, fibroids were detected in her uterus.
The medical team advised that surgery was the most effective and lasting solution for her condition.
Initially, she hesitated, struggling with the fear of undergoing a major operation and the potential complications it could bring.
However, during one of her cycles, she experienced an alarming episode involving severe pain and abnormal tissue being expelled from her body.
The discomfort became unbearable, forcing her to seek emergency medical assistance late at night.
Further evaluation showed that the fibroid had grown significantly within her uterus, creating a life-threatening situation.
She was told that surgery could no longer be postponed and that the procedure carried substantial risks.
The actress described the decision as one of the most crucial moments of her life, acknowledging that although the surgery posed a chance of losing her womb, it was necessary to preserve her life.
