Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has expressed that she does not receive the level of recognition she deserves, despite her longstanding contributions to the music industry.
Speaking on a recent episode of the ‘OffAir Show’ hosted by Gbemi and Toolz, the award-winning singer—widely celebrated as the Queen of Afrobeats—stated that she deserves more accolades than she currently gets.
When Toolz asked if she feels she has “gotten her flowers” from the industry, Tiwa responded candidly:
“No. I’m sorry, I don’t.”
Savage also revisited her early doubts about some of the genre’s biggest hits. In an interview with NotJustOk, she revealed that she was unimpressed when she first heard Don Jazzy’s iconic track “Dorobucci.”
According to her, the Mavin boss played an unfinished version of the song at their hotel in Dubai during her wedding, and she initially thought it lacked potential.
“Don’t know if people know this, but ‘Dorobucci,’ I had Don Jazzy playing that in the hotel when we were in Dubai for my wedding, and I didn’t want to tell him, but I thought it was such a crap song,” she admitted.
However, Tiwa later changed her mind after hearing the completed version, saying she was stunned by how much the track had evolved.
She also recalled having similar doubts about her own hit single “Eminado”, before it went on to become one of her most celebrated songs.
