Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Tope Alabi, has spoken candidly about her failed relationship with the father of her first child, Ayomikun.
Gossip News Now recalls that before marrying her current husband, Soji Alabi, in November 2000, the singer was in a relationship with Lekan Olaoye, with whom she had her first daughter.
In a recent video shared on her Facebook page, Tope Alabi revealed that Olaoye never formally introduced his family to hers or performed any traditional marriage rites.
According to her, Olaoye repeatedly promised to meet her family but never fulfilled his word.
She recounted:
“I started living with him, thinking there was no need to return home where my family was pressuring me to get married at all costs. Little did I know I had moved from the frying pan to the fire. Whenever I went home, my father would express concern.
“He couldn’t openly forbid me from staying with the man, but he often reminded me that he had never met the man or any member of his family. It took persistent insistence before my so-called partner finally showed up one night with a few work colleagues.
“When my family asked when his relatives would come for the proper introduction, he simply said, ‘Okay.’ But that ‘okay’ never came to pass. Tomorrow never arrived. Now, I no longer need his ‘okay’—my dear father, who once waited for it, is gone. Thankfully, before his passing, he met a good family who gave him the proper ‘okay.’”
Tope Alabi went on to advise women, especially young ladies, to be discerning in relationships, saying:
“Ladies, please listen to me. When a man notices that you are gullible or vulnerable, he can easily take advantage of you.”
