Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has shared a personal experience from his time in office to highlight what he described as his hands-on leadership style and problem-solving mindset.

Obi made the disclosure on Monday during an interactive Space session on 𝕏 with his supporters, widely known as the Obidients.

Recounting the incident, the former governor said the experience happened several years ago while he was travelling on a British Airways flight during his tenure as governor.

According to Obi, a female passenger opened one of the aircraft’s toilets, found it in a dirty state, and walked away without using it.

“We were returning on a British Airways flight while I was still a serving governor. Someone opened the toilet, saw it was messed up, and simply walked away,” Obi narrated.

Rather than ignore the situation, Obi said he chose to step in and clean the toilet himself.

“I Cleaned It Because I Might Need It Next”

Obi explained that his action later surprised a cabin crew member who discovered the toilet had been cleaned.

“I went inside and cleaned it. When the staff returned, she was shocked. She didn’t say anything to me directly but later told a minister and another official in her office,” he said.

Quoting the airline staff member, Obi added, “She said she couldn’t believe what she saw.”

He noted that his decision was driven by simple logic rather than any desire for recognition.

“I cleaned it because I might be the next person to use that toilet,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra governor said the story reflects a broader lesson for Nigerians, urging citizens to take responsibility when they encounter problems instead of ignoring them.

“When you see something wrong, fix it. I don’t keep house help in my home; everyone knows that. We should stop living fake lives,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, British Airways had not issued any response regarding Obi’s account.
