Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong has revealed that he always prays before performing kissing scenes in movies, saying his faith plays a central role in guiding his career choices.
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Rubbin’ Minds”, the actor explained that he seeks God’s direction whenever he takes on romantic roles, emphasizing that prayer gives him peace and clarity before going on set.
Etim-Effiong noted that kissing scenes are common in Nollywood because many producers believe they attract more viewers and boost engagement. However, he questioned why affection is often shown in only one way, saying there are many creative alternatives to express love on screen.
“The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles means I sometimes have kissing scenes. People feel it’s become one too many, but the question should be for producers. Why express affection only that way? There are many other ways,” he said.
Despite public criticism, the actor stressed that he remains focused on his purpose and calling, describing acting as both a ministry and a form of worship.
“I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go on set and kiss. My family is my garden, then my work,” he said.
Etim-Effiong, who left a promising career in engineering to pursue filmmaking, added that storytelling is his divine calling—one that allows him to inspire others and stay true to his faith and values.
