Veteran comic actor Yomi King, popularly known as Opebe, has revealed that he was physically assaulted on a movie set after siding with his late senior colleague, Baba Suwe, during a past dispute in the Yoruba movie industry.

Speaking during an interview on “Behind the Fame,” Opebe recounted how a disagreement between Baba Suwe and Yinka Quadri spiraled into a real-life altercation while filming a movie titled “Eku Meji.”

He explained that he had openly supported Baba Suwe during the conflict, unaware that his loyalty would later lead to unexpected consequences.

According to the actor, the script for Eku Meji required Yinka Quadri to beat him in one of the scenes — but instead of acting, the beating became genuine and painful.

“Those sufferings were beyond acting; they were real beatings,” Opebe recalled. “That’s what they call acting — you have to make it look real for people to believe it. But in this case, it truly happened.”

He went on to describe the incident further, saying:

“They had a misunderstanding — I won’t mention names — but I supported Baba Suwe during his clash with Yinka Quadri. When we got to the set for the scene, it was supposed to be a normal beating role. But when he hit me, it turned into a real slap and serious beating. I started shouting, ‘Cut! This isn’t a movie anymore!’ I was furious.”

Opebe, who began his acting career in 1979, rose to prominence through the popular TV comedy show “Erinkeke.” He is widely recognized for his comic roles and his long-standing friendship with the late legendary comedian Baba Suwe.
