Nigerian rap superstar and music mogul Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide Baddo, has revealed that he is entering a new chapter of life, dedicating his time entirely to himself.
In a recent interview with Flow 98.7 FM, the YBNL boss explained that after years of balancing personal pursuits with supporting others in the industry, he has decided to prioritize his own growth and well-being.
“Right now, I’m at a phase in my life where I’m really trying to give myself undivided attention,” Olamide said.
Reflecting on his past efforts to uplift others, he added: “All my life I’ve been trying to be there for people and also trying to do my stuff. But right now, I’m really just trying to focus on myself 100 percent.”
Through his record label, YBNL, Olamide has launched the careers of several prominent Nigerian artists, including Lil Kesh, Young John, Pheelz, Fireboy DML, Lyta, Asake, and Adekunle Gold.
Beyond those signed under YBNL, Olamide has also provided platforms for other rising talents by featuring them in songs that became major hits. Artists who have benefited include Zlatan Ibile, Naira Marley, Portable, Bella Shmurda, and others.
Recently, controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, stirred conversations about mentorship in the Nigerian music scene. In a video on Instagram, he claimed that he has helped more people in the industry than Olamide, Don Jazzy, Wizkid, and Davido combined.
Portable insisted that his support extends beyond music to aid the less privileged, but he added that when some artists he helped decide to go independent, they are often unfairly labelled ungrateful.
Olamide’s remarks underscore a shift from being a mentor and supporter to concentrating on personal development, marking a significant new chapter in his illustrious career.
