The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has invited the two rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to a reconciliation meeting at its headquarters in Abuja in a bid to resolve the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
The closed-door meeting, which is currently in progress, brought together representatives of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction and the Abdulrahman Mohammed faction backed by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Sources told Gossip News Now that Turaki attended the meeting alongside members of his National Working Committee (NWC), secretariat officials, and former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu.
Mohammed was also present with members of his national caretaker committee, including the committee’s secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.
Meanwhile, the Wike-backed PDP National Caretaker Committee has announced the dissolution of executives in 14 state chapters of the party and revealed plans to organise fresh state congresses in January 2026.
The committee maintained that the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman and Senator Sam Anyanwu as Acting National Secretary remains the only legitimate national leadership structure recognised by the party.
This position was outlined in a communiqué issued after the committee’s meeting held on Thursday evening in Abuja and read by the Acting Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungun.
The latest developments come amid unresolved disputes over the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 16, which was endorsed by PDP governors.
At the convention, Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and other members of the National Working Committee were elected to serve four-year terms—an outcome that the rival faction has refused to recognise.
