IPAC Slams Wike: ‘You Do Not Speak For Us’ Over Claims Of Rainbow Coalition Backing Tinubu

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has refuted assertions made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that political parties nationwide are forming a “rainbow coalition” under his leadership to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Martins, the council made it clear that Wike was never given any authority to make political declarations on behalf of the body or its member parties.

Martins condemned the claim as baseless and deceptive, stressing that Wike does not have the power to dictate or announce the political positions, alliances or candidate choices of registered political parties at either the national or state levels.

IPAC firmly maintained that the former Rivers State governor has no mandate to represent the interests or decisions of political parties.

The statement read:
“IPAC is deeply concerned about the recent remarks attributed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, suggesting that all political parties will unite under his leadership in a so-called ‘rainbow coalition’ to endorse President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections.

“We state unequivocally that this narrative is false, misleading, and a product of the Minister’s imagination. At no time did IPAC or any registered political party empower him to speak on their behalf or determine their political alliances, preferences, or choice of candidates for the 2027 polls.”

Martins emphasized that political parties function as autonomous bodies, guided by their constitutions and internal decision-making structures, adding that matters concerning coalitions, partnerships, or endorsements must come solely from officially constituted party organs.

He went further to dismiss any suggestion that political parties were being gathered behind a single individual or agenda, cautioning against efforts to manipulate or exploit the collective identity of political parties for personal political ambitions.

According to IPAC, contrary to Wike’s position, it is aware that some political parties are independently evaluating the possibility of offering full solidarity to Governor Siminalayi Fubara in Rivers State.

Martins explained that this consideration may extend to parties choosing not to field governorship candidates as a voluntary gesture aimed at fostering peace, restoring stability, and strengthening governance in the state — values currently under tension.

“These decisions are entirely at the discretion of the concerned political parties and are motivated solely by a shared commitment to ensuring lasting peace,” he added.

The council concluded by emphasizing that no individual, no matter their status or influence, has the legitimacy to appropriate the voice or decision-making power of political parties.
