The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ready to assist Nigeria in addressing rising security challenges, with particular attention to attacks targeting Christians.

Speaking on Prime Time, a current affairs programme on Arise Television, on Monday, Freeman explained that the support would primarily involve intelligence sharing and broader security cooperation.

Reaffirming Israel’s commitment to Nigeria’s stability, the ambassador stressed that all assistance would be carried out under the full direction and approval of Nigerian authorities.

“We will be guided by the Nigerian government on where and how we can work together to tackle insecurity across the country,” Freeman said.

He noted that the nature of intelligence cooperation requires strict confidentiality.

“Any communication behind the scenes will, of course, remain behind the scenes. When dealing with intelligence and sensitive information, public discussion could compromise the entire purpose of these exchanges,” he added.

Freeman clarified that Netanyahu’s remarks were not limited to Nigeria but reflected a broader concern for the protection of Christians worldwide.

“What Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed was the safety of Christians globally, not solely in Nigeria,” he said.

The ambassador also highlighted Israel’s record of religious tolerance, pointing out that the country remains the only one in the Middle East with a growing Christian population.

“He emphasized that Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is increasing, which was a key point in the Prime Minister’s message,” Freeman added.
