Veteran Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has reacted to the killing of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Speaking in a video shared on Instagram, Alibaba described the incident as tragic but stressed that the fallout could have been far more explosive if the suspect had been a person of colour.

“I can’t put into words how relieved I was when I found out the suspect wasn’t Black. It would have been worse,” the comedian said.

The killing has attracted global attention after authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah.

Although registered as a nonpartisan voter, Robinson reportedly came from a Republican, pro-gun family and had shown increasing political interest in recent years. He was said to have clashed with relatives over Kirk’s ideology, accusing the activist of fueling division.

Robinson, who achieved an ACT score of 34, briefly studied at Utah State University in 2021 on a scholarship but dropped out after one semester.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., better known as DDG, has announced plans to relocate from Los Angeles to Lagos, Nigeria.

The move comes as the rapper continues a custody battle with his former partner, actress and singer Halle Bailey, over their 17-month-old son, Halo.
