Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles have what it takes to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after head coach Eric Chelle unveiled his final 28-man squad for the tournament.
Gossip News Now reports that Mikel Obi, who played a key role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON triumph, shared his support on Instagram shortly after the squad was confirmed, posting: “Bring it home lads.”
Nigeria will be aiming for their fourth continental title, entering the tournament following a disappointing end to their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Despite recent setbacks, fans remain hopeful that an AFCON victory could restore faith in the team.
Chelle had initially released a 55-man provisional list before trimming it to the final 28. The squad features five uncapped players, while notable absentees include Christantus Uche, Maduka Okoye, and Tolu Arokodare.
Although the Super Eagles boast a wealth of individual talent, inconsistency in recent matches has tempered expectations. Nevertheless, Nigeria’s history of rising to the occasion in major tournaments keeps optimism alive.
With key players like Victor Osimhen and several in-form stars included in the squad, many believe the team remains capable of mounting a serious challenge in Morocco.
