Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has called on Nigerian leaders to place citizens’ welfare at the forefront and embrace people-centered leadership as the nation enters 2026. He stressed that unity, integrity, and shared responsibility are essential for national stability and development.

Jonathan issued the message to Nigerians at home and abroad through his Media Assistant, Wealth Dickson Ominabo, urging a renewed commitment to national ideals.

“As we enter 2026, we give thanks to God for the gift of life and the opportunity of a new beginning. The turning of the year invites hope and reflection, and it is with both that we embrace this moment,” he said.

Reflecting on the past year, the former president acknowledged the economic pressures and security challenges that affected families and communities across the country.

“The year behind us has not been without trials. As a nation and as individuals, we have faced economic challenges and persistent insecurity, testing our resilience and, for many families, bringing hardship and loss,” he noted.

Jonathan emphasised that these experiences highlight the importance of leadership focused on the needs of the people.

“Even amid these difficulties, the enduring character of the Nigerian people has shone through. Across communities, courage, solidarity, and quiet determination have prevailed. Our shared values, diversity, and collective hope for a better future have sustained us,” he said.

Looking forward, he called on both citizens and leaders to recommit to the principles of duty, humility, and integrity.

“As we move into 2026, let us renew our dedication to the ideals that unite us. Leadership at all levels must be anchored in service, guided by integrity, humility, and genuine concern for the welfare of the people,” Jonathan stated.

He added that sustainable national progress depends on collective effort and a unified vision.

“It is through shared responsibility, mutual respect, and steadfast commitment to the national interest that Nigeria can continue advancing toward stability and inclusive development,” he said.

Jonathan concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful and fulfilling year, praying for continued progress toward unity, justice, and shared prosperity.
