Nigerian rapper and songwriter Panshak Zamani, widely known as Ice Prince, has revisited his personal experiences during the 2001 Jos Crisis, describing the period as terrifying and extremely violent.
Speaking during a recent episode of Echoo Room hosted by actor Teddy A, the Aboki hitmaker recounted how the unrest unfolded while he was still very young, noting that the memories remain deeply etched in his mind.
Ice Prince explained that the conflict spiralled into chaos as religious institutions became directly involved, alleging that both churches and mosques distributed firearms, effectively transforming Jos into a battleground.
According to him, the violence left horrifying scenes across the city, with dismembered body parts visibly scattered on the streets as clashes raged on.
He further lamented that despite the intensity and brutality of the crisis, it attracted little media attention at the time, leaving much of what happened undocumented.
Describing the episode as nothing short of a full-scale war, Ice Prince said the experience left lasting trauma on residents who lived through it.
In his words:
“Anyone who knows about the Jos Crisis will tell you I’m not exaggerating. I was still young, but it was real. Churches were sharing guns, mosques were sharing guns. It wasn’t child’s play — it was a full-blown war.”
He added:
“You would see heads on the ground, legs on the ground, things like that. Yet, it was hardly reported.”
