Veteran Nollywood actor Kalu Ikeagwu has recounted an awkward experience he had while watching one of his movies with his mother — a film that unexpectedly featured a kissing scene with actress Ini Edo.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, the 53-year-old actor revealed that the incident occurred after his mother, curious about his growing popularity, asked to see one of his movies. During her visit, she had seen fans requesting photos and autographs and wanted to understand why he was so admired.

To please her, Kalu said he carefully selected what he thought was the safest movie from his collection to take home. However, the plan quickly backfired when a romantic scene appeared on screen.

“When I went to visit next, my brothers were there and everything,” he recalled. “During the movie, it got to a point where I had a scene with Ini Edo, and we had to kiss. I completely forgot that scene was there because I had looked for the safest movie I could find. As the scene was about to start, I was like, ‘Oh, this scene is coming!’ Sweat was running down from my armpits, and I just started retreating.”

The actor said the moment was unbearably awkward as he tried to keep a straight face while his mother and siblings watched on.

The experience, he noted, made him much more selective about the roles he takes — especially films that family members might end up watching.

“Before anything else, I read the script,” Kalu explained. “From what I learned in school, whatever movie you do is supposed to inform, educate, and entertain at the same time. But that day taught me to be even more careful.”
