Kalu Says Misinformation Won’t Diminish His Standing in Abia North

Senator Orji Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, has pushed back against claims and threats made by a youth group in Abia State, accusing certain political interests of deliberately spreading false narratives to undermine his influence.

Kalu’s reaction followed renewed warnings by some youths in Ohafia, who declared that the former Abia State governor was not welcome in the community.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Media and Public Affairs Team, the senator described the allegations against him as misleading and unrepresentative of the general opinion across Abia North.

He maintained that he continues to enjoy strong backing throughout the senatorial district, including in Ohafia, insisting that isolated voices should not be mistaken for the collective will of the people.

According to the statement, Kalu commands broad support across all five local government areas—Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi—a confidence it attributed to years of visible service, firm representation, and bold advocacy.

The statement further highlighted Kalu’s record of consistently speaking up for Igbo interests at the national level, while also delivering constituency projects and sustaining grassroots engagement that have reinforced his political base.

“Truth will always outlive propaganda,” the statement said, adding that leadership founded on service naturally earns lasting support across Abia North.

The senator’s response comes amid continued agitation by members of the Ohafia Youth Association, who on Wednesday restated their earlier position that Kalu remains persona non grata in the area due to events surrounding the 2023 general election.

The youth group, led by its chairman Obasi Kalu Obasi and secretary Onyekachi Uduma, accused the senator of allegedly portraying Ohafia as a stronghold of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during the election period.

They claimed that the alleged label resulted in an overwhelming security presence, voter intimidation, and the disenfranchisement of many residents during the polls.
