Kano Governor to Meet Tinubu Today Set to Finalize APC Defection

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly ordered the suspension of the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic registration exercise in Kano State, ahead of the official defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the ruling party.

The directive comes as Governor Yusuf is scheduled to meet President Tinubu today at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja to finalize his move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.

Sources told Daily Post that one reason Governor Yusuf has stayed in Abuja for several days was to secure a meeting with the President, who had been out of the country but returned late Wednesday.

According to the source, President Tinubu specifically instructed the governor to wait and meet him immediately upon his return before taking any further political action.

Confirming the development, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Alhassan Doguwa, stated that the APC e-registration exercise in Kano had been paused following directives from President Tinubu and the party’s National Chairman.

Doguwa explained that the decision was made to ensure Governor Yusuf is formally presented as a member of the APC before the registration exercise begins.

“You can see that even the APC e-registrations in Kano could not commence because President Tinubu and the party National Chairman asked that Governor Yusuf be the first to register,” Doguwa said.

The lawmaker made the remarks while addressing supporters in a video that has since circulated widely on social media.

Although neither the Presidency nor the APC national leadership has released an official statement, party sources noted that the suspension of the registration exercise highlights the importance attached to Yusuf’s anticipated defection and its potential impact on the party’s structure in Kano State.

The meeting between President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf is expected to formally pave the way for the governor’s entry into the APC and set the stage for subsequent party activities in the state.
