Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has strongly criticized the anticipated defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a deep act of political betrayal.

According to reports by Gossip News Now , arrangements are already being made for Governor Yusuf to cross over to the APC despite repeated warnings from Kwankwaso and other senior NNPP leaders.

The governor’s planned exit has opened a fresh political battle in Kano, with several members of his cabinet said to be considering resignation as they maintain loyalty to Kwankwaso.

Speaking in a trending video on Wednesday, Kwankwaso expressed disappointment and stated that surrendering the mandate won by the Kwankwasiyya Movement to Abdullahi Ganduje and the APC was unacceptable.

He said:
“Giving away Kwankwasiyya’s mandate to Ganduje and the APC amounts to nothing less than betrayal and a grievous sin against the people of Kano State.”

Meanwhile, former Kano PDP governorship aspirant, Ja’afar Sani Bello, downplayed Kwankwaso’s political strength.

During an appearance on Daily Politics on Trust TV, Bello argued that any political party Kwankwaso chooses to join tends to face setbacks under his influence.

He further claimed that the former governor does not possess the nationwide appeal of other major political figures who recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Atiku Abubakar joined the ADC without conditions, Peter Obi joined without conditions, and Nasir El-Rufai joined without conditions. All of them have national followings that far surpass Kwankwaso’s,” Bello stated.
