Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has firmly rejected circulating reports claiming he has endorsed the supposed defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speculation has been growing that Governor Yusuf may abandon the NNPP for the APC, following recent political shifts and unfolding events within Kano State’s political landscape.

Late Tuesday, reports surfaced alleging that Kwankwaso—who has historically opposed party defections—had allegedly softened his stance and was now backing Yusuf’s possible move to the ruling party.

However, Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, swiftly countered these claims, describing them as fabricated and untrue.

In an official statement released on behalf of the former Kano governor, Hassan reaffirmed that Kwankwaso remains completely devoted to the NNPP’s mission, values, and long-term objectives.

The statement reads:
“We want to make it abundantly clear that this report is false, misleading, and entirely unsupported by facts.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf won his mandate under the NNPP and continues to belong to the party, with a responsibility to uphold the trust placed in him by the people of Kano State.

“At no point did Senator Kwankwaso approve, endorse, or show support for any purported plans by Governor Yusuf to defect to the APC. Any suggestion to the contrary is a deliberate distortion of the truth and should be viewed with extreme caution.

“We urge the public, party members, and the media to disregard these unfounded claims and rely solely on verified, credible information sources.”
