Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has stated that any move to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) would depend on firm guarantees regarding the political future of Kano State and the safety of his loyal supporters.

Speaking on Wednesday at his Miller Road residence in Kano, Kwankwaso addressed leaders and supporters from Rano and Dawakin Tofa Local Government Areas, along with members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, who came to reaffirm their commitment to him and the NNPP.

“I never said I would not join the APC, but before we take that step, we must be fully assured about the future of the Kano State government,” Kwankwaso clarified.

He questioned the fate of his lawmakers, loyalists, and political structures, stressing that clear commitments must come before any defection is considered.

The former governor reflected on past political alliances where his faction played crucial roles in forming administrations but was later marginalized.

“At different times, we joined forces and helped build the government, yet eventually, we were sidelined. That experience made us leave the party,” he said.

He asked whether the APC had sincerely changed its approach toward him and his movement, reminding listeners of the major contributions his camp made in previous political cycles.

According to him, no solid assurances have been presented so far regarding the preservation of the Kwankwasiyya political structure or continuity in Kano State.

“Up to this moment, nobody has given me a definite assurance that we will retain our government and maintain our political base. I need complete clarity,” he emphasized.

Present at the meeting were Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo; Commissioner for Science and Technology, Yusuf Kofar Mata; NNPP Kano State Chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa; and other senior party officials.

During the gathering, these officials openly pledged their continued loyalty to Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
