Kwankwaso Slams Kano Governor Over Potential APC Defection

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has expressed strong opposition to reports that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be preparing to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso described the potential move as a betrayal, especially after the collective efforts made to wrest control of Kano from the APC.

Speaking to party supporters on Saturday, he said the news came as a shock to the NNPP leadership.

“This is a lesson for all of us. We believed everyone understood the sacrifices made. We never anticipated such betrayal,” Kwankwaso said.

He noted that although the defection was initially slated for Monday, it appears to have been postponed.

“I heard the decampment was set for Monday, but it seems it has now been delayed,” he added.

Kwankwaso called on party supporters to intervene, both spiritually and personally, to prevent the governor from leaving the party.

“We are assigning you a task: continue to pray for them. And if you have contact with them, advise them against this move,” he urged.

Highlighting the potential political consequences, Kwankwaso warned that the defection could undo the hard-won gains of the NNPP in Kano.

“If they proceed, people might argue that Abdullahi Ganduje is better, despite his record,” he said.

Describing the situation as deeply painful, Kwankwaso added, “After all we did to rescue Kano from Ganduje and the APC, you are now handing the governorship back to him free of charge.”

He concluded by emphasizing that the defection has not yet occurred and expressed hope that the governor and others involved would reconsider.

“It has not happened yet. We hope they will understand the love and support they still have here,” Kwankwaso said.
