The Kwara State Government has given the green light for the reopening of schools that had been closed in several areas due to earlier security concerns.
The announcement was made on Sunday by Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development. Schools affected are set to resume academic activities on Monday, February 2, 2026.
According to a statement signed by Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, authorities in the impacted local government areas have already been formally notified of the decision.
The government highlighted that the resumption is possible because of noticeable improvements in security across the affected communities, while emphasizing that vigilance remains essential.
“The government considers the security situation to have improved significantly compared to previous weeks. Nevertheless, sustained vigilance is being maintained,” the statement read.
Officials noted that security operations are ongoing to neutralize remaining threats and ensure the safety of students, staff, and residents.
“Security efforts continue steadily to consolidate recent gains, while the government works to strengthen community resilience alongside ongoing kinetic operations,” it added.
In a related development, the Nigerian Army has intensified coordinated operations against terrorist elements in Kwara State. Troops from the 22 Armoured Brigade have been actively engaged in the Joint Operations Area (JOA), achieving notable successes.
Captain Maureen Ogbuka, speaking on behalf of the Acting Deputy Director of 2 Division Army Public Relations, Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, disclosed on Friday that these achievements were supported significantly by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
