Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the deadly attacks in Woro and Nuku communities of Kwara State, which reportedly claimed the lives of 162 people, describing the perpetrators as violent criminals with no religious affiliation.

In a statement shared on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Fani-Kayode dismissed suggestions that the killings were driven by faith, stressing that both Christians and Muslims were targeted during the attacks.

Commendation for Security Response

The ambassador-designate praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the immediate deployment of troops to the affected areas. He also called on the Federal Government to take further steps by establishing a permanent military base in the region to prevent future attacks.

According to him, swift and sustained military presence is necessary to protect residents and restore lasting peace.

Condemnation of the Attacks

Fani-Kayode described the incident, which occurred in Kaiama Local Government Area, as horrifying and unacceptable, extending his sympathy to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the people of Kwara State.

He acknowledged ongoing efforts by the state government to address insecurity, while expressing concern that some individuals within the country may be collaborating with the attackers for political reasons.

Call for National Unity

The former minister warned against politicising the tragedy, urging Nigerians to stand together in support of both the state and federal governments to confront what he described as an attack on the nation itself.

He maintained that the assailants were not motivated by religion but were “bloodthirsty barbarians from a foreign land,” bent on violence and destruction.

Fani-Kayode concluded by calling for collective resistance against insecurity and offered prayers for the victims, asking that the souls of those killed rest in peace.
