Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has urged his supporters to give the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) a 10-day ultimatum to resolve its ongoing internal crises. He also demanded the immediate dissolution of officials elected at the party’s Ibadan Elective Convention.
Gossip News Now reports that Lamido made the declaration on Thursday at his Sharada office in Kano while receiving hundreds of loyalists, including former local government chairmen, ex-commissioners, and key appointees from his administration.
‘Outsiders Have Captured PDP’ – Lamido Fumes
Lamido condemned what he described as the ‘hijack’ of the party by external interests and called for a Caretaker Committee to manage a fresh start ahead of the next primaries.
“The problem today is that outsiders have captured the party, pushing original owners like me aside,” he said, stressing that the Ibadan convention should be dissolved and replaced with a neutral Caretaker Committee to steer party affairs.
The ex-governor emphasized that his push for a mediator-style leadership reset is aimed at removing ego and political sabotage. “I am advocating for a Caretaker Committee, asking Wike, Damagun, and others to forgive themselves and allow its formation,” he added.
Lamido noted that the party remains under the leadership of its constitutional heads until their tenure expires. “As it stands, Damagun and Anyanwu remain the leaders of the party,” he said, noting their tenure officially ends on December 8, 2025.
He warned that any abrupt change without proper structure could jeopardize the future of party loyalists seeking elective positions. “Without proper leadership, the future of those contesting, those holding positions, and those wishing to recontest could be at risk,” Lamido said.
Appeals for Justice and Unity
Lamido shared that his legal interventions are not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to protect the party’s legacy and his fundamental rights. “I don’t want the Court to insist that I must take leadership of the party, but to sustain its legacy and protect my rights,” he said.
He further called for an inclusive leadership dialogue to deliberate on peace measures within the PDP. “We must hold a joint meeting that will carefully and thoroughly discuss the PDP,” he said, urging supporters to remain patient until December 8 while monitoring developments closely.
