Reality television star and dancer Roseline Omokhoa Afije has revealed that an unexpected health challenge nearly prevented her from achieving her dream of appearing on Big Brother Naija.
Speaking during a conversation with media host VJ Adams, the performer explained that she had successfully passed the early stages of the selection process in 2020 and was already preparing to appear at the show’s launch event.
According to Gossip News Now reports that, Liquorose had gone through preparations behind the scenes, including wardrobe and makeup arrangements, expecting to be introduced as one of the new housemates that season.
However, events took a disappointing turn when she tested positive for COVID-19. The diagnosis meant she could not participate in the competition that year, even though she had already reached the final stage of the selection process.
The development was particularly painful for her because she had been so close to stepping onto the show’s stage. The sudden setback left her discouraged and uncertain about whether to pursue the opportunity again.
Liquorose was not the only hopeful affected by the situation. Fellow aspiring contestant Jaypaul also missed the chance to compete that year due to the same health concerns.
Despite the disappointment, both contestants returned the following year to try again. Liquorose admitted that she initially hesitated to audition again because the previous experience had shaken her confidence.
It was only after encouragement from a close friend that she decided to take another chance at the auditions. According to her, she submitted her application without expecting much and eventually stopped thinking about the outcome.
A surprising discovery later changed everything. While checking her email, she found a message in her spam folder informing her that she had been selected for the show.
That moment marked the beginning of a new chapter in her career. Liquorose eventually entered the Big Brother Naija Season 6, where she quickly became one of the most popular housemates.
Her journey on the show ended with her finishing as the runner-up, just behind the season’s eventual winner Whitemoney.
Commentary and Analysis
Liquorose’s story highlights how persistence can shape success in highly competitive entertainment industries. Reality television opportunities like Big Brother Naija attract thousands of applicants each year, making selection extremely competitive.
Unexpected setbacks—such as health issues or missed opportunities—often discourage aspiring contestants from trying again. Liquorose’s experience demonstrates the importance of resilience when pursuing long-term goals.
Her eventual success on the show also illustrates how timing can play a crucial role in entertainment careers. If she had participated in the earlier season, the trajectory of her journey might have been entirely different.
Today, Liquorose’s story serves as a reminder that temporary setbacks do not always signal the end of a dream. Sometimes, they simply delay the moment when the opportunity finally arrives.
