Liverpool have confirmed that striker Alexander Isak has successfully undergone surgery after sustaining a fracture to his left ankle, dealing the club a significant early-season blow.
The Sweden international required an operation after suffering a fractured fibula during Saturday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham. While Liverpool did not provide a precise recovery timeline, sources indicate the 26-year-old is likely to be sidelined for several months.
Isak had come off the bench and marked his appearance with a goal for Arne Slot’s side, only for the moment to be overshadowed by injury. He was immediately hurt following a challenge from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven and was assisted off the pitch by medical staff, visibly in pain.
The setback is particularly concerning for Liverpool, as Isak is the club’s record signing, having joined from Newcastle in a £125 million deal over the summer. Since his arrival in September, the forward has scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
The injury adds to a frustrating stretch for Isak. Earlier in the summer, he missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a minor thigh issue and later trained alone at former club Real Sociedad before finalizing his move to Anfield on transfer deadline day.
