Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has rejoined the Udinese first team after serving a two-month suspension related to betting violations, the club’s Group Technical Director, Nani, has confirmed.
Speaking to Messaggero Veneto, with quotes shared by Tuttoudinese, Nani welcomed the Nigerian international back to the squad, expressing optimism about his impact on the team ahead of a busy fixture schedule.
“We welcome Maduka back,” Nani said. “His presence strengthens us, but the decisions on selection remain entirely up to the coach, who has full freedom in making his choices.”
According to Gossip News Now, the 26-year-old shot-stopper joined Udinese in the summer of 2023 and quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper before his suspension. His calmness, sharp reflexes, and command in the box were key to the Bianconeri’s defensive stability during the first half of last season.
Prior to his move to Italy, Okoye featured for Watford in England, where he gained valuable European football experience that has since shaped his development as one of Nigeria’s top goalkeepers.
While Okoye’s reinstatement is a major boost for Udinese, Nani emphasized that his immediate return to the starting XI will depend on the manager’s discretion.
“The coach has maximum freedom regarding who starts,” Nani reiterated.
Udinese are set to face Cremonese on Monday, October 20, in their next Serie A fixture, and fans will be watching closely to see whether Okoye resumes his role between the posts. His comeback arrives at a crucial point in the season as Udinese aim to regain form and climb the league standings after a mixed start.
