Good morning, Nigeria. Here is your Gossip News Now summary of the leading national news stories for today, Friday, 14th November, 2025.
1. “Stop Appointing Junior Officers As Service Chiefs When Their Seniors Are Still In Service” – Uzor Kalu Warns
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has cautioned against the growing practice of bypassing senior military officers and elevating their juniors to the position of service chiefs.
Speaking on Thursday during deliberations on “A Bill for an Act to Repeal the Armed Forces Act and Enact a modern, constitutionally aligned and operationally efficient legal framework for the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2025,” Kalu addressed his remarks to the President and Commander-in-Chief.
According to Gossip News Now , President Bola Tinubu currently holds that office and recently approved the dismissal and replacement of several service chiefs.
Kalu argued that promoting junior officers ahead of their superiors weakens the morale of senior personnel and leads to the needless loss of both human capacity and financial investment, as these senior officers are forced into premature retirement.
The senator from Abia particularly criticised the recent appointments involving the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff.
2. “I Have No Issues With the Military” – Wike Clarifies After Abuja Incident
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed suggestions that he is in conflict with the Nigerian military.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike insisted that he has never had, and will never have, any form of dispute with the Armed Forces.
His clarification comes after a confrontation on Tuesday between him and a Nigerian Navy officer over the legality of a land development project in Abuja—an episode that quickly gained national attention.
But addressing the media once more, the FCT Minister described rumours of a rift between him and the military as baseless, misleading, and deliberately spread by mischief makers.
Wike emphasized that he holds the Armed Forces in the highest regard and noted that his administration has consistently supported military operations within the FCT and throughout the country.
3. ‘Let’s Not Expose Our Internal Issues Publicly’ – Speaker Rebukes Lawmaker
There was a brief moment of tension in the House of Representatives on Thursday when Speaker Tajudeen Abbas cautioned a member who openly criticized lawmakers’ behaviour during plenary.
Hon. Ifeanyi Uzokwe, representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in Anambra State, had raised a point of order to decry what he called a rising decline in decorum among members.
According to Uzokwe, “Each day we sit here, Mr Speaker, our children and other guests sit in the gallery watching us.
“They come to observe how we conduct legislative business, but too often our behaviour here is not something they should emulate.”
Before Uzokwe could conclude his remarks, Speaker Abbas cut in, cautioning him that internal matters should not be publicly discussed.
Abbas stated, “If the issue concerns the internal operations of this chamber, it is something we should address privately in an executive session.”
4. Dating in Lagos Is Chaotic – Fireboy DML Speaks On His Love Life
Afrobeats star Adedamola Adefolahan, widely known as Fireboy DML, has opened up about his romantic experiences, describing his love life as turbulent and hard to navigate.
According to Gossip News Now , the Jealous hitmaker revealed that the disordered dating culture in Lagos was a major inspiration behind his popular track “Ashawo.”
Fireboy noted that the difficulties of finding love in the city heavily influence his songwriting and his overall outlook on relationships.
He said his personal journey has been filled with emotional highs and lows, but that he tends to find clarity and stability in love, especially during stressful periods.
The singer has also previously said that heartbreaks push him to create more honest and relatable music.
5. Osimhen Leads Super Eagles to 4–1 Win Over Gabon, Securing World Cup Playoff Final Spot
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen rose to the occasion as Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Gabon 4–1 to advance to the final phase of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff series.
The Nigerian team had to battle hard after squandering multiple scoring opportunities throughout regular time. Osimhen, who had earlier missed two clear-cut one-on-one chances, redeemed himself in extra time by netting two crucial goals that sealed the victory.
Nigeria finally broke the deadlock late in the second half when Akor Adams finished off a perfectly timed run into the box in the 78th minute. Gabon, however, hit back in the 89th minute as Mario Lemina capitalized on a defensive lapse to force the match into extra time.
That equalizer only seemed to ignite the Super Eagles. Substitute Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in the 97th minute with a calm, clinical strike that sent fans into a frenzy. From that moment on, Osimhen took center stage.
The Galatasaray star scored in the 102nd minute after a smooth passing sequence dismantled the Gabonese defence. He then doubled his tally eight minutes later with a brilliant individual effort, stretching the scoreline to 4–1 and putting the game out of reach.
With the win, Nigeria progresses to Sunday’s playoff final, where they will battle either Cameroon or DR Congo. The victor will qualify for the intercontinental playoff in March 2026 — the final hurdle on the road to the World Cup.
6. Ancelotti Says Ronaldo Can Hit 1,000 Career Goals
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed confidence that Cristiano Ronaldo can achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 1,000 professional goals, praising the veteran forward’s discipline and unwavering determination.
Ronaldo, who has already surpassed 950 goals for club and country, remains one of football’s most consistent and lethal scorers. Although the 40-year-old has hinted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup may be his final tournament, Ancelotti believes the Al-Nassr star still has major milestones ahead.
Speaking to Spanish journalist Tomás Roncero, as reported by AS, Ancelotti said: “He’s going to reach it, absolutely. I have no doubt he will.
“In Italy, they once asked me about Modric still performing at 40, and I said he would thrive at Milan. Luka and Cristiano are dedicated professionals with a deep passion for the game.
“They accomplish anything they commit to. Cristiano will hit that 1,000-goal mark, and when he does, he better make sure I’m invited to the celebration of that historic achievement.”
7. ‘This Is the Most Senseless Thing Ned Told His Foolish Wife to Say’ – Regina Daniels Fires Back at Laila Charani
Nollywood star Regina Daniels has responded fiercely to her co-wife, Laila Charani, following accusations that she engages in same-sex relations and introduced Laila to drug use.
According to Gossip News Now, Charani claimed she refused to leave her daughters in Regina’s care because of Regina’s alleged involvement with girls.
Reacting via Instagram, Regina condemned Charani’s statements, calling them baseless, offensive, and deeply insulting.
Regina added that she does not view same-sex relations as something disgraceful, questioning the certainty of Charani’s allegations.
The actress further disclosed that she allowed her own son to interact with Charani’s child despite what she described as the “terrible acts” he had committed—details she said she would never disclose publicly.
8. Senate Seeks To Prohibit Military Recruitment of Individuals Under 18
The Senate has moved to bar the recruitment of anyone below 18 years of age into the Nigerian Armed Forces, as lawmakers passed the Armed Forces (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2025, through its second reading.
According to Gossip News Now, the bill aims to eliminate the enlistment of minors and harmonize Nigeria’s military statutes with the Child Rights Act of 2003, as well as global treaties such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
Sponsored by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua of Katsina Central, the bill seeks to abolish the existing Armed Forces Act of 2004 and replace it with an updated, constitutionally compliant law designed to meet current security challenges.
Introducing the bill, Yar’Adua argued that the overhaul was long overdue, noting that the current legislation—originally based on a military decree—fails to align with democratic standards or modern operational needs.
The proposed act includes comprehensive reforms aimed at enhancing discipline, transparency, and justice within the nation’s military establishment.
9. Tinubu Obsessed With Borrowing – ADC Criticizes Fresh Loan Approval
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has faulted the Federal Government for securing another ₦1.15 trillion in domestic loans, accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of inconsistent policies and reckless financial management.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC pointed out that although Tinubu recently claimed Nigeria had surpassed its non-oil revenue projections—reportedly hitting N20.59 trillion by August 2025—the government continues to plunge the nation deeper into debt.
Referring to projections that Nigeria’s total public debt could climb to N193 trillion if all of the President’s 2025 loan proposals are approved, the party argued that the administration is “contradicting its own claims” while failing to provide meaningful relief to citizens struggling under inflation and rising living expenses.
10. Reps Order Immediate Halt To Proposed CBT For 2026 WASSCE
The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to stop the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) from implementing Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, warning that the decision could result in widespread failure, emotional distress, and even endanger students’ lives.
This directive came after the lawmakers adopted a motion of urgent public importance raised by Hon. Kelechi Nworgu during Thursday’s plenary session.
While presenting the motion, Nworgu admitted that CBT has been effective for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) but stressed that conditions in most Nigerian secondary schools make such a transition impractical for WAEC.
He explained that many schools lack the facilities, trained personnel, and technological capacity required to support a computer-based examination model.
After discussions, the House mandated WAEC and the Federal Ministry of Education to put the CBT implementation on hold.
Lawmakers also called on the Federal Government to make provisions in the 2026 budget for the recruitment of competent computer teachers, the establishment of ICT laboratories with internet connectivity, and the installation of backup power supply in schools across the country.
