1. African Union Suspends Guinea-Bissau Over Military Takeover
The African Union (AU) has suspended Guinea-Bissau following the coup that unfolded this week in the West African nation.
According to information disclosed to AFP on Friday by the AU Commission leadership, the continental body resolved “to suspend Guinea-Bissau from its activities with immediate effect,” Chairman Mahamoud Ali Youssouf announced.
Election observation missions deployed by the African Union, ECOWAS, and the West African Elders Forum strongly condemned the abrupt halt of the presidential and legislative election announcement process and the subsequent military takeover.

2. Appeal Court Dismisses Nnamdi Kanu’s Rights Violation Suit Against DSS, AGF
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, challenging alleged violations of his fundamental rights.
According to Gossip News Now , the three-member appellate panel ruled that the appeal lacked merit and had become academic following Kanu’s conviction on terrorism charges.
The court held that Kanu’s claims—alleging breaches of his rights to human dignity, adequate medical care, and freedom of religion while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS)—were no longer actionable after his November 20 conviction and subsequent life imprisonment sentence by a Federal High Court.
Delivering the lead judgment, Justice Boloukuromo Moses Ugo stated that the appeal became academic once Kanu’s counsel, Maxwell Opara, confirmed that his client had already been transferred to Sokoto prison.
The panel added that Kanu’s request to be returned to Kuje prison could not be granted since he had already been remanded in the facility he preferred.

During his tenure, Malami oversaw several high-profile legal matters, including asset recovery initiatives, anti-corruption reforms, and major government decisions that drew national attention. Taking to 𝕏, Oliseh dismissed the rumours, clarifying that his comments were misinterpreted. He said his concern was not about Chelle’s ability but about the decision to appoint a foreign coach instead of a qualified Nigerian.
“Correction please, I didn’t criticise the coach. Watch the clip again. I was unhappy he was appointed instead of a qualified Nigerian, but so far he (Chelle) has done relatively well. Let’s call a spade a spade!” he wrote.

She revealed that she locked herself in her room for days, cutting off communication with friends and pretending she had travelled, just so she could find a quiet space to seek clarity.
During that period, she wore the same outfit daily, prayed intensely, and barely ate. She spent long hours on the floor and on her bed, crying out to God for direction and a fresh start.

Following deliberations, ECOWAS leaders unanimously agreed to suspend Guinea-Bissau from all decision-making organs of the regional bloc until full constitutional rule is restored.
During the meeting, ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray presented a detailed report on the situation, highlighting disruptions to the electoral process and commending citizens for their “resilience and commitment to democracy” during the November 23 elections.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed that both Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara dispatched aircraft to evacuate him and his delegation during the recent coup in Guinea-Bissau.
Speaking with journalists, Jonathan explained that the Ivorian aircraft arrived first because Côte d’Ivoire is geographically closer and secured landing clearance more quickly due to regional connections. As a result, the Nigerian aircraft was asked to stand down once the Ivorian plane was ready for takeoff.
Jonathan expressed appreciation to both leaders for their swift intervention, noting that their timely response ensured the safety of his team amid the tense political situation.
He said: “I thank President Tinubu and President Ouattara. Both leaders sent planes to evacuate us during the Guinea-Bissau coup. Côte d’Ivoire is closer and obtained a landing permit faster due to regional ties. We asked Nigeria to stand down once the Ivorian plane arrived.”
