Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has launched a blistering attack on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of misusing power and weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the South-West zone.
In an interview aired on TVC, Fayose claimed that Governor Makinde has alienated loyal party members who played key roles in his emergence, while allegedly concentrating state resources and influence in his own hands.
According to Fayose, many party faithful who stood by Makinde during his rise to power have since been pushed aside and excluded from the political process.
He further alleged that Makinde’s leadership style has eroded the PDP’s grassroots structure across the region, leading to growing dissatisfaction and internal cracks within the party.
Fayose also raised concerns about the credibility of PDP’s internal democratic processes, particularly citing developments in Osun State, where he claimed party rules were ignored during candidate selection.
He alleged that an individual who did not officially purchase a PDP nomination form eventually emerged as the party’s candidate, a situation he described as damaging to the party’s integrity.
Recalling a past political incident, the former Ekiti governor claimed he was attacked during a political gathering in Osun State, accusing Governor Makinde of being behind the incident.
Dismissing Makinde’s political influence, Fayose described him as politically inexperienced, insisting that he lacks the depth and stature required to lead the party in the region.
Fayose also reaffirmed his loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, amid ongoing leadership struggles within the PDP.
“I stand with Wike completely. Wherever Wike is, that is where I belong,” Fayose declared.
Despite his sharp criticism of the party’s regional leadership, Fayose maintained that he remains committed to the PDP and has no intention of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stressed that his political history reflects independence and resilience, noting that he won his governorship seat without backing from political godfathers.
“I fought my political battles on my own terms,” he said, describing himself as an elder statesman within the party.
