Manchester United have dismissed reports that they are planning a January move for Sergio Ramos, despite speculation linking the club with the former Real Madrid captain.
Ramos, 39, became a free agent earlier this month after leaving Mexican side Monterrey at the end of his contract. His availability fueled rumours that United might add the experienced defender to their squad during the mid-season transfer window.
However, ESPN reports that Manchester United have “no interest” in signing Ramos and are not pursuing any deal for the Spain international. While Ramos’ illustrious career includes a World Cup, two European Championships, four Champions League titles, and five La Liga crowns, the club is understood to be prioritizing younger options as they plan their winter business.
United are still expected to reinforce Erik ten Hag’s squad in January to strengthen the team for the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United winger Nani has suggested another target. He believes Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo would be a smart addition to the squad and encouraged the club to act if the opportunity arises.
“Why not?” Nani told Metro when asked about a potential move for the Ghana international. “That is the type of player the fans want to see. However, we know that when players come to Man United, it is completely different. They have to adapt. I hope, if we get Semenyo, he can come with the right attitude, the right mentality, and put all his talent on the field to help the team.”
Semenyo, 25, joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 and had attracted interest from both Manchester United and Tottenham before committing his future to the Cherries with a new contract.
