Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has extended his best wishes to Enzo Maresca following the Italian coach’s departure from Chelsea.
Speaking after Chelsea announced Maresca’s exit on January 1, Arteta commended the work of his colleague during a challenging period at Stamford Bridge.
“I wish him all the best for the season,” Arteta said.
“I really like Enzo, both as a person and a professional. He did a terrific job at Chelsea. That’s the decision that has been made, and I wish him every success moving forward.”
Maresca leaves Chelsea after guiding the club to Europa Conference League and Club World Cup triumphs last season. The current campaign, however, has been more difficult for the Blues, who are struggling for consistency and currently sit 15 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Turning attention to his own squad, Arteta provided updates on player fitness ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming trip to the Vitality Stadium.
The Spaniard confirmed that Declan Rice, who missed the 4-1 victory over Aston Villa due to a knee issue, is still under assessment.
“We have another session today. Let’s see how he comes through it and how he’s feeling,” Arteta said.
Rice remains a doubt, while Cristhian Mosquera and Riccardo Calafiori have been ruled out for the match.
There was positive news, however, as Ben White returned to action against Villa, and Kai Havertz was included on the bench for the game.
Arsenal are set to face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 3.
