The Senator representing Benue South and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has restated his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), firmly denying rumours that he plans to defect to another political party.

Moro made the declaration on Wednesday during a consultative meeting with the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), led by its chairman, Kabiru Turaki.

Despite a wave of defections that has hit the opposition party in recent months, Moro insisted that he and other dedicated members remain committed to the PDP and will not be swayed by political pressure.

“I want to assure you, Mr Chairman, that many of us here are neither poor nor desperate politicians. We are in the PDP to remain,” Moro said.

“We are not in the party merely as a vehicle for winning elections, nor are we obsessed with the 2027 polls. No amount of intimidation will force us out of the PDP.”

He described the PDP as Nigeria’s only credible platform for democratic governance and urged the newly constituted NWC to collaborate with party leaders to rebuild unity and internal cohesion.

“The national convention has been concluded, and the responsibility now rests heavily on you and other members of the NWC to rescue the party. It is indeed a very demanding task,” he added.

Responding, Kabiru Turaki assured members that the party leadership was taking concrete steps to reposition the PDP ahead of future elections.

“Our mission is to rescue Nigeria from anti-democratic forces and strengthen our multiparty democracy. The 2027 elections are about Nigerians, not defections,” Turaki said.

He also praised Moro and other PDP senators for what he described as their principled loyalty, referring to them as “the backbone of the party.”

Similarly, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Adolphus Wabara, commended the successful national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, and pledged the BoT’s full support for the Turaki-led NWC.

“From the onset of their tenure, it is clear that the party is being repositioned, its structures reinforced, and confidence gradually restored nationwide,” Wabara noted.

He stressed the need for unity and reconciliation, urging members to prioritise healing and collective rebuilding of the party.
