Nollywood actor, Kelechi Udegbe, has opened up about how a near-death experience completely transformed his spiritual life and deepened his faith in God.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Udegbe recounted that in November 2023, he was involved in a serious car accident that left him unconscious and hospitalized.
The actor explained that he had just parted ways with his friend, fellow actor Gregory Ojefua, after an outing. Moments later, he found himself waking up in a hospital with no recollection of how he got there.
Describing the incident as a divine turning point, Udegbe said the experience reshaped his outlook on life and his relationship with God.
He recalled suffering severe neck pain from whiplash and undergoing therapy during his recovery. When he later returned to the hospital for a check-up, his doctor’s words struck him deeply — as though God Himself was speaking through the man.
“That accident was crazy,” he recounted. “I was with Gregory Ojefua, my guy. We had just finished from where we were, and I asked where he was headed. He said Eko Bridge, and I told him I was taking Third Mainland. That was the last thing I remember before waking up in the hospital.
I couldn’t move my neck because of the whiplash — it was very painful. When I came back three days later, the doctor looked at me and said, ‘Go and sin no more.’ It felt like Jesus Christ was talking to me.”
Udegbe added that before the accident, he considered himself a Christian, but the experience profoundly strengthened his faith.
“Before the accident, I believed in God, I prayed, and I went through the motions. But since that incident, my conversation with God, my belief, and my daily walk with Him have gone a notch higher,” he said.
The actor credited the experience with reminding him of God’s mercy and giving him a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude for life.
