Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has pledged to personally cover all match bonuses owed to players and coaching staff if the Federal Government does not settle the outstanding payments by Saturday.

Ndidi explained that he does not want the payment dispute to disrupt the team’s preparations for their upcoming AFCON 2025 fixtures in Morocco.

The commitment was revealed by sports journalist Oluwashina Okeleji on Thursday, who quoted the midfielder’s assurance.

“I’ve been motivating the team to train and to prepare for the game against Algeria. I’ve been doing this since our second match,” the journalist quoted Ndidi as saying. “I’ve now made a promise to the staff and players that I will personally pay the bonuses if the authorities fail to resolve it before Saturday.”

Ndidi reportedly told the squad that he did not want the issue of unpaid bonuses to become a distraction, stressing that he would step in financially if necessary.

Fresh tension surfaced ahead of Nigeria’s quarter-final meeting with Algeria after reports emerged that players refused to travel to Marrakech and skipped Thursday’s training session. The protest was linked to unpaid bonuses covering all three group-stage matches and the round-of-16 win.

However, the Federal Government has since moved to calm the situation. Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, announced that the matter has been addressed and that the Central Bank is currently processing the payments owed to the players and technical crew.
