Senator Ned Nwoko has responded to his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, following her recent denial of allegations regarding drug use, asserting that a single negative test does not prove consistent sobriety or erase previous findings.
In a statement posted on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) and issued by Nwoko’s communication team, the senator clarified that temporary abstinence from substances is not the same as genuine recovery. The team emphasised that true rehabilitation requires sustained professional support, honesty, and long-term commitment, not just a solitary test result or social media statement.
Questions Over Recent Test
Nwoko’s team questioned the conditions under which Daniels’ latest drug test was conducted, stressing that a single negative result cannot be considered definitive proof of prior innocence. They highlighted that earlier reports of drug and alcohol use were compiled by independent, reputable laboratories in Nigeria and South Africa, and these findings will be presented and defended in court, with the laboratories prepared to testify to their accuracy.
The statement further clarified that using a later negative result to deny past usage is misleading, noting that it only reflects temporary abstinence, not long-term recovery, and does not negate previous medical assessments or the need for intervention.
On MDMA And Underlying Issues
Addressing concerns regarding MDMA (commonly known as Molly), Nwoko’s team stressed that such substances should not be downplayed or trivialised through casual references. They also noted that the core issues behind the public dispute remain unresolved, and temporary behavioural changes do not address these concerns.
The team referenced a previous court ruling in Nwoko’s favour, which dismissed all unsubstantiated human rights claims filed by Daniels last year, reiterating that he had kept the matter private to allow Daniels the chance to seek help quietly while maintaining a meaningful relationship with their children.
Evidence Over Social Media
Nwoko’s communication team emphasised that any single test, taken at a convenient time, cannot outweigh professionally documented, independent assessments. They warned that all drug tests, including Daniels’, would be subject to court scrutiny if necessary, underscoring that the issue requires credible, admissible evidence rather than social media narratives or public spectacle.
