The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Justine Madugu as the substantive head coach of the Super Falcons, rewarding him with a two-year contract following the team’s historic success at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Madugu, who initially took charge on an interim basis after Randy Waldrum’s departure, guided the Super Falcons to their record 10th continental title, cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s rising managerial talents. His confirmed appointment, reported by Daily Post, comes as the team prepares for their WAFCON 2026 qualifier against Benin Republic.
According to Gossip News Now, Madugu has already announced a 21-player squad for the upcoming fixture, featuring key names such as captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and several other regulars from the championship-winning side.
Madugu’s tenure has marked a period of revival for Nigerian women’s football, with the Super Falcons earning international recognition for their achievements. The team has been nominated for the 2025 CAF National Team of the Year Award, while Ajibade and Nnadozie are both shortlisted for individual honours at the same ceremony.
In addition, Justine Madugu himself has been shortlisted for the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year Award, alongside Bankole Olowookere, the head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos. Olowookere and his young squad have also received a nomination following their unbeaten run in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
Madugu’s new deal signals continuity and confidence from the NFF as the Super Falcons look to build on their continental dominance and prepare for future global challenges.
