Nigerian footballers delivered standout performances across multiple leagues last weekend, producing goals, assists, and decisive contributions that highlighted the country’s growing footprint in world football. From Europe to North America, Nigerian players once again proved influential for their clubs.

Victor Osimhen stole the headlines in Turkey after reaching a remarkable personal milestone. The Galatasaray striker scored the 200th senior goal of his career during a commanding Super Lig win over Kayserispor. Osimhen doubled his side’s advantage and later provided an assist before leaving the pitch in the 82nd minute, with Mauro Icardi converting a late penalty to complete the victory.

The milestone came after 336 senior appearances for club and country, during which Osimhen has also recorded 51 assists. At club level, he has now scored 165 goals in 284 matches, with prolific spells at Napoli and Galatasaray standing out. His international record remains equally impressive, with 35 goals in 51 appearances for Nigeria.

In England, Joy Omewa marked her Nottingham Forest Women debut in memorable fashion, scoring in a challenging 5–1 defeat to Birmingham City in Women’s Super League 2. The Super Falcons forward showed sharp movement and composure to draw Forest level shortly before halftime.

Despite the heavy loss, Omewa’s performance offered encouragement. She has now scored in 15 of her last 16 league matches and remains in strong form ahead of Forest’s upcoming clash with Charlton, before a possible mid-February departure for WAFCON duty.

Elsewhere in England, Ola Aina delivered a resilient display for Nottingham Forest as they earned a hard-fought draw against Crystal Palace while reduced to 10 men. The defender recorded multiple clearances and recoveries, dominated his ground duels, and remained flawless in aerial contests.

Crystal Palace’s Christantus Uche featured off the bench, making his 12th league appearance of the season. Although still searching for his first league goal or assist, the midfielder showed promise, carrying the ball forward effectively and continuing to gain valuable top-flight experience.

At Old Trafford, Alex Iwobi was one of Fulham’s standout performers in their dramatic defeat to Manchester United. He completed the majority of his passes, created key chances, and covered significant ground in possession, underlining his importance in midfield.

Samuel Chukwueze also impressed despite difficult personal circumstances, delivering an energetic display that included multiple successful dribbles, a created chance, and a narrowly disallowed goal. Calvin Bassey, Fulham’s reigning Player of the Season, was introduced late as the team searched for an equaliser.

In Italy, late drama unfolded as Babajide scored a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a 3–3 draw for AS Roma Women against Parma. The winger, introduced just after the hour mark, headed home deep into added time for her third goal for the club and her first league strike since joining.

The result extended Roma’s unbeaten run to seven matches and kept them top of the Serie A Femminile standings. Her compatriot Shukurat Oladipo continued her regular role in defence as Roma now prepare for a key fixture against AC Milan.

Over in Mexico, Taiwo Lawal maintained her scoring form for Mazatlán FC, finding the net in a dominant 5–0 victory over Necaxa. The goal took her season tally to five, keeping her as the club’s leading scorer. Mazatlán currently sit 11th on the table and will next face Pachuca, where Lawal could line up against fellow Nigerian Chinwendu Ihezuo.

In the Championship, Arthur Okonkwo continued his solid run for Wrexham, keeping a clean sheet in their narrow away win over Sheffield Wednesday. The goalkeeper has now recorded seven shutouts this season and remains a key figure as Wrexham push for promotion playoff qualification.

Back in Italy, Rafiu Durosinmi made an immediate impact for Pisa after coming on at halftime, setting up their only goal in a loss to Sassuolo. The assist marked his first for the club and his second direct contribution since arriving from the Czech Republic, following his debut goal against Atalanta.

Although Pisa were defeated, Durosinmi’s sharp cameo drew attention, while compatriot Ebenezer Akinsanmiro remained an unused substitute.
