Nigeria’s Falconets have once again asserted their dominance in West African women’s football by defeating Ghana’s Black Princesses 3-0.
The victory secured the Falconets the 2025 WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup on Tuesday at Stade Omnisport d’Adjohoun in Benin Republic.
From the first whistle, Nigeria displayed superior speed, precision, and composure. Janet Akekoromowei opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a composed finish, and just seven minutes later, Alaba Olabiyi doubled the lead, leaving Ghana struggling to respond.
Ramotalahi Kareem sealed the win in the 61st minute with a clinical strike, ensuring a comprehensive victory that reflected the Falconets’ dominance throughout the tournament.
Ghana struggled to match Nigeria’s intensity and accuracy, with the Falconets already two goals ahead before the half-hour mark.
With the triumph, Nigeria concluded the competition with a flawless nine points and a +8 goal difference, scoring three goals in each of their three matches. Ghana finished second with six points after defeating host nation Benin earlier in the tournament.
In their first encounter, the Falconets had beaten Ghana 3-1, courtesy of a brace from Akekoromowei and a late goal by Favour Chiamaka. On Sunday, they thrashed Benin 3-0, with Kareem scoring twice and Precious Oscar netting the third.
Under the guidance of Coach Moses Aduku, the team has shown discipline, tactical balance, and flair, dominating opponents consistently.
Their stellar performances have now earned Nigeria back-to-back WAFU B titles, reinforcing the country’s supremacy at the youth level in the region.
Although the Falconets’ final match against Benin on Wednesday is still scheduled, it will essentially be a celebratory fixture, as Nigeria has already secured the trophy.
