Renowned Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has voiced deep concern over Nigeria’s continued struggles, stating that the country urgently needs leaders who are willing to make real sacrifices for national progress.

Speaking during a televised interview on Channels Television, the actress reflected on Nigeria’s political direction and the expectations surrounding the 2027 general elections. The interview was broadcast on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Omotola lamented that despite Nigeria being richly endowed with both natural and human resources—assets many other nations envy—the country remains far from reaching its full potential.

According to her, the problem is not a lack of capacity but a shortage of bold leadership. She argued that Nigeria has everything required to succeed, except leaders courageous enough to make difficult and sometimes risky decisions that could genuinely liberate the nation from its long-standing challenges.

The veteran actress emphasized that no society can thrive without law and order, warning that a country risks descending into disorder when laws are either absent or deliberately ignored.

She further noted that even nations perceived as powerful can quickly become unsafe if rules are not respected or enforced, stressing that development is rooted in discipline and accountability.

For Omotola, real progress comes only when leaders enforce laws without fear or favoritism, regardless of personal consequences.

She also criticized political figures who rely on emotional narratives or stories of past suffering to gain public support, yet fail to demonstrate true commitment once they assume power.

According to her, many politicians profess love for Nigeria, but their actions often reveal a stronger interest in personal benefit rather than national welfare.

The actress concluded by stressing that Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who genuinely place the country above themselves and are willing to pay the price—personally and politically—for meaningful change.
